Laurie River Lodge sits in the narrows between the north and south ends of McGavock Lake, more than 550 miles northwest of Winnipeg, in a 40-by-60-foot log chalet with access to the first 40 miles of the Laurie River system. Its 16 professional guides target trophy northern pike, walleye and lake trout, and guests can add fly-outs to neighboring lakes for even more remote water. The lodge keeps things full-service: modern lakeside cabins with daily maid service, home-cooked meals and shore lunches, plus spring black bear hunt-and-fish combination trips. Open May to September and accessible only by air.
