About this lake
East Shoal Lake is the easternmost of the three Shoal Lakes, a group of prairie lakes set between Lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg about an hour northwest of Winnipeg. It is relatively shallow and celebrated for yellow perch ice fishing, with northern pike as the secondary target. Higher water levels in recent years have boosted perch and pike numbers and reduced winterkill.
